Why I Don't Think Louis Tomlinson Is Homophobic Nor A Jerk

Last week One Direction's Louis Tomlinson was all over the news after he reacted to an article about him on The Independent. The article written by the journalist Jenn Selby, claimed that Louis' was wearing a rainbow Apple shirt in order to support Apple CEO, Tim Cook, who recently came out.

A day after this was published, Louis got on twitter and talked about the article, directing himself to the Journalist: "@JennSelby The fact that you work for such a 'credible' paper and you would talk such rubbish is laughable. I am in fact straight. Google 'original apple logo' and you will see the one printed on my shirt that you reported on. Trying to look for a promotion ?". And then declared: "Fucking ridiculous I even have to tweet that shit !". Just after he tweeted this many fans and articles started to claim Louis was homophobic, since The Independent's article did not say anything directly about his sexuality.

Jenn Selby then tweeted him back: "Hi @Louis_Tomlinson thank you for your tweet. I'm sorry you found our article in any way insulting, at no point did we insinuate anything about your sexuality or mention you relationship, and nor would we. We merely speculating as to whether you'd shown your support to a brave man facing some persecution for his decision to come out in public recently. I'd like to remind my readers that being called 'gay' should never be insulting & that standing up for #LGBT rights is an admirable thing to do". She is right. Being called gay is not and should never be insulting and yes supporting LGBTQ+ rights is in fact an admirable thing to do; But this wasn't about whether Louis was or not showing support to Tim Cook, it was clearly about 'Larry', even thought it wasn't direct. If this was about Louis supporting LGBTQ+ fans and rights, it wouldn't have mentioned Harry. Especially not in the way it did, it mentions Harry's "not that important" comment before it even talks about Louis or Tim Cook. If this was only about Louis like she claims, she probably would've mentioned what Harry said in the very end as a complement, not in the TITLE. 

The way this article was written and titled, it's a clear click-bait for those people who actually believe Louis and Harry are in a romantic relationship since the X Factor days. Even thought the article does not call him gay, and supporting LGBTQ+ doesn't make you gay. It is probably hard for Louis to know, especially when he sees that his band mate is constantly harassed about his sexuality as soon as he public supports the LGBTQ+ rights. Not to mention all the people who believe Larry is real have been harassing Louis, and his acquaintances for almost four years now.

It is really annoying that some people actually acted as if Louis said this out of nowhere. For years now he has been dealing with hate and rumours about his sexuality and private life. Whilst being called gay isn't a insult, being called a liar is. And the amount of people that say Louis has been lying to everyone faces all these year is quite impressive. The Larry Tin-hats actually say that many of Louis' statements are lies, and he does not make his own decisions. After what he tweeted, those people started saying that the person who was tweeting wasn't Louis, but someone from his management team, just like the first time he denied Larry; Back in 2012 he tweeted a fan who said they had never denied Larry: "Hows this , Larry is the biggest load of bullshit I've ever heard. I'm happy why can't you accept that?". That's when the Louis Tomlinson and @Louis_Tomlinson are two different people theory started. And this is just one of the many theories they have created to prove that Larry is in fact a real romantic relationship. After Louis' tweets some fans even said they were going to cancel their pre order of 'FOUR' to make a statement.

Louis has not only been harassed by the "larries" but also by actual reporters, like Stephanie Soteriou, a Yahoo reporter who has before written an article about Larry. And has also send tweets encouraging the hateful behaviour many people have towards Louis, forcing him to come out of a closet he isn't on. A day before Louis' tweets, during One Direction's hangout on YouTube to promote their brand new album, she tweeted "Can Louis not even SAY the 'E' word?" referring to his long term girlfriend Eleanor Calder, and when a fan said that her behaviour was rude since Eleanor has a name, she answered "well maybe you should tell her boyfriend that because he appears to have forgotten". And even after Louis stated his sexuality on twitter she kept on encouraging people to believe Larry is real. The worst thing about this is that it looks like she is click baiting, since her usual tweets have around 20-30 retweets and favourites - if not less, and her tweets about Larry have 200-300+ retweets and favourites.

Eleanor is one of the biggest targets when it comes to Larry. People are so rude to her, anything and everything she does is over analysed. If she spends time with Louis, people starting questioning if she works or studies, and claim that management is making them appear together to make sure everyone knows Louis is straight; But if she isn't seen with Louis for a while, people start staying that their relationship is fake or that they've broken up - which always leads to Larry will come out soon. Eleanor is a big part of the whole Larry conspiracy. Many people have created theories in which Eleanor has a twin or doesn't even exist.

You don't have to go far to see the amount of hate this girls gets, just check her instagram account, it is filled with comments saying such as "You're fake, Larry is real" or "Management" or "Beard". She has many offensive 'nicknames' like 'Eleabeard', 'Eleawhore', and earlier this year they created a new one as stupid and offensive as the other ones 'Ebolanor'. After the 'Steal My Girl' music video came out people also said how Louis looked more comfortable with the money than with her. Louis' family have also been attacked by some 'larries'. They are harassed every single day. On every picture from every single one of Louis' family members you will see at least a couple "Larry is real" comments, even when his family says it is not.

His sister, Lottie, was actually verbally attacked on her instagram late 2013, because she lost her temper. She saw that a fan had posted a picture of a unhappy Louis and Eleanor holding hands with the caption "look @ how happy louis is and their hand holding" implying that he didn't want to be with her, but yes with Harry. So she commented on it: "Lots of cameras were flashing at him, it's late at night what did you want him to do come out laughing his head of. Sit down and shut up because you people do not know A THING. YOU DONT EVEN KNOW HOW HE FEELS SHUT UP YOUR DELUDED F R E A K S". She later on apologized and Eleanor showed her support by saying "Some people are VILE. You have nothing to apologise for Lotts xxxx". Someone then tweeted Eleanor saying she was horrible and had no right on calling some fans 'vile' and she tweeted her back saying: "Oh, but it's ok for these 'fans' to send abusive and threatening messages to Louis' younger sisters? And that's not horrible?!".

Lottie is constantly on the spot, and she was again earlier this year. Firstly when she posted a picture of herself wearing a denim jacket, similar to one Louis has and one Harry has been seen with, and somehow this is a Larry proof. Therefore her comments were filled with "The Larry jacket", "This is Louis' jacket" or "Larry is real". Also later on this year she posted a picture of herself kissing one of her female friends, and that caused hysteria on twitter, leading people to trend "The Wrong Tomlinson Came Out", that happens to be offensive not only to Lottie but also to Louis.

Rant Lifestyle reported on the occurred with a post called "We Get It, Louis Tomlinson - You're Straight, But You're Also A Jerk". In which they say that Louis' way of dealing with these rumours was "disrespectful and childish in the face of his many gay fans". I just feel like this is unfair, since Louis has many times before shown respect and support to the LGBTQ+ fans. I like to believe the person who wrote this article has not idea what Larry is, and the toll it takes on Louis, his girlfriend, his friends and his family. But for me, the worst thing about this post was the ending phrase: "I guess everyone can't be like Styles – and that's truly unfortunate". You know what, he is right, everyone CAN'T BE LIKE STYLES, and you want to know why? Simply because Harry is Harry, and only Harry can be Harry. Just like Zayn is Zayn and Liam is Liam. No one can be like them apart from themselves. For someone to actually compare them like this is absolutely sickening. I don't and most likely will never understand this obsession some people have with One Direction being a band of five Harry Styleses. It is not nor will it ever be. Why not enjoy it for what it is? A band with a Harry Styles, a Zayn Malik, a Niall Horan, a Liam Payne and a Louis Tomlinson.
