Hollywood and the Ever-Growing List of Awkward Interviews

This past couple of weeks we've been seeing a series of really awkward and/or disrespectful interviews floating around. Starting with Cara Delevingne promoting 'Paper Towns' for Good Day Sacramento; then the Fantastic Four cast (minus Miles Teller) for Atlanta's Rock 100.5; Followed by One Direction's new single promo with The View; and finished with Miles Teller's cover story for Esquire.

Cara was in a live stream with the hosts of Good Day Sacramento promoting her brand new movie 'Paper Towns', and after being asked if she had read the book she answered sarcastically "No, I never read the book or the script actually, I kind of winged it." And after that it just kind of went downhill. The hosts were somehow offended by her answers and even told her she seemed irritated and needed some Red Bull, and after that the interview was cut short the hosts kept bashing Cara live. Yikes... The deal with this whole situation was pure and solely lack of understanding. Delevingne is indeed a woman with a strong personality and very sarcastic, she's also British, who tend to have a quite dry sense of humour; And plenty of Americans, wether like to admit or not, are not very good understanding sarcasm.

The cast of Fox's new attempt on taking the Fantastic Four to the big screen (with the exception of Miles Teller) were promoting the movie in a radio show in Atlanta, when the hosts started asking uncomfortable questions, like how could Mara's and Jordan's characters be brother and sister if they're from different races, and when they answered saying that Sue is adopted, the host said 'Don't ruin my question'. But the real awkward started after one of the hosts started talking about Kate Mara's hair 'You're way, way hot. Why would you cut your hair?'. As one of them keeps on talking about her hair the other finishes it by telling her 'I'm a toe guy. Your toes are fine'. So, the publicist cut the interview short. Now, on this case is a clear situation of ignorance. The interviewers were way out of hand when questioning the reason a girl would cut her hair, she has every right to do so, and as she said: She's an actress, she needs to a chameleon. Not to mention asking how two people from different races can be siblings is extremely disrespectful, in the world that we live today there are no restrictions to be family anymore. The only thing that should measure family is love.

One Direction just released their first single after Zayn Malik's departure, so now it's promo time. The band was in New York, and after performing 'Drag Me Down' live on TV for the first time on GMA, they sat down with The View's Michelle Collins and Raven Symone, and that was in general a quite awkward and uncomfortable interview. From unwanted hair touching, to really uncomfortable comments on fertility, and questions about Bachelor in Paradise, the whole thing was kind of hard to watch. Personally, the worst part of it all was when Collins asked what they're new single was about and as Louis started answering, she clearly wasn't paying attention and started laughing a something else, what made Louis say 'I don't think you're taking this song seriously'. And she sure didn't seem to, not just the song, but the entire thing just didn't seem to be being taken seriously by them at all.

Rising star Miles Teller was interviewed by Anna Peele for his Esquire cover story, and let's say things just didn't turned out great. The first sentence in the interview is 'You're sitting across from
Miles Teller at the Luminary restaurant in Atlanta and trying to figure out if he's a dick.'; Now, why would go interview a person to make sure they're a jerk? Plus, it's clear from the whole thing, that she already went to the interview with the formed opinion that he was a dick. The entire thing is really disrespectful, especially the tone used by the interviewer. Firstly she finds it very bad - God knows why - of him to have ambitions 'Then it's back to his oeuvre. Or rather a dissertation on other people's oeuvres and how they might affect the oeuvre of Miles Teller. He has clearly spent a lot of time thinking about the careers of other actors'; Then she basically calls him ugly 'you ask him about his hair. He's brought up how nice it is in more than one interview. It's a little defensive, like maybe he's making up for not being the best-looking, or sometimes even the third-best-looking, guy in any given movie he's in'. And to finish it she puts the icing on the cupcake by saying 'he dates a twenty-two-year-old model/aspiring swimsuit designer/professional girlfriend who thinks Teller is attractive enough to have permanently monogrammed her perfect ass with his initials'. This last quote was the reason the whole thing lost credibility for me. What kind of professional journalist would write something like that?

Bad Interviews; Well, they happen, and sometimes is not really anyone's fault but the fact that some people just don't get along. Yet, recently those have been extra cringe-worthy and almost like they're meant to be uncomfortable; or worst, like the interviewers simply don't care. It's common knowledge that as a reporter you won't always get to cover only the stories you want or interview only the artists you care about, and as good professional you should be respectful and do your job, no matter how little you want to be there, or how much you dislike the person you're talking to, because at the end of the day that's what will get you paid, that's your job.
